Our story

Born from survival.
Built on love.

My grandfather Bill, who we called Papo, was not mine by blood. He became mine by showing up.

He drove fourteen hours to bring me home from the hospital when I was born, and that was just the beginning. He taught me to tie my shoes and to drive a stick shift. He helped teach me how to be a parent. He gave me the ordinary, practical wisdom that gets handed across a kitchen table, and he gave it consistently, for years, without being asked to.

His contribution was so much more than financial. It was more than any institution could give. It was steadiness.

He was delighted by exactly who I was, and he never let me forget it.

He proved something I have never been able to stop thinking about: a person's life can change direction because one adult decides to stay.

Florence

Steadiness and
resilience together.

My grandmother Florence brought a different kind of strength. Resilience. Intuition. Tenderness and truth telling, often in the same sentence.

What I inherited was not one thing. It was practical wisdom and unconditional presence. Someone who taught me how the world works, and someone who told me the truth about it.

That combination is what we are trying to build conditions for.

Marcos

Sometimes the first
thing is safety.

The Marcos Fund carries my brother's name.

It exists because relationship and education are not always what a young person needs first. Sometimes the first thing is a door that locks.

No one can work on their future while wondering where they will sleep.

What we took from it

We cannot manufacture
a childhood.

We can work to make sure the absence of one does not determine the rest of a life.

That is the distinction this foundation is built on. We are not here to rescue anyone. Rescue puts us at the center of a story that belongs to someone else. We are here to provide a safe place to stand, the knowledge to move forward, and people who keep showing up.

The young person builds the life.

Hayes is a name.
Steadiness is
the inheritance.

Support. We show up before we are asked.

Trust. Built through ordinary interactions repeated long enough to be believed.

Empowerment. Agency stays with the young person.

Advocacy. We open doors, and we go with you through them.

Dignity. No one has to prove their suffering to deserve help.

Youth. The young person is the protagonist. We are infrastructure.
